Homemaking: Holistic Support and Care

Our Homemaking seminars support the orientation of residential staff in the Trust’s method, taking place both at Upper Grange in Stroud and Upper Grove in the Midlands.

The seminars are designed to promote the activation of personal and professional development for staff, and self-development for the students we support. This is achieved via a combination of immersive, experiential, knowledge-based and reflective modes, embedded in the context of Ruskin Mill Trust’s residential provisions and the Practical Skills Therapeutic Education curriculum. Seminars at Upper Grange are intended for staff supporting RMT college-age young people, whereas at Upper Grove our focus is for staff working in schools.

With this course we seek to offer an experience of what ‘home’ means for our children and young people, through the lens of RMT’s Seven Care Qualities which are inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s research into Seven Life Processes. This three-day journey takes us through a recapitulation of RMT’s Seven Fields of Practice and how an understanding of this meta picture can help embed our care qualities as living, dynamic and practical realities in the homes we create with our children and young people.
