Gert Biesta – Afternoon lecture on Education: Art, Craft or Science?
February 25 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm£5
This afternoon lecture is by Dr. Gert Biesta, Professor of Public Education at Maynooth University, Ireland, Professor for Education at the University of Humanistic Studies, the Netherlands and Visiting Professor, NLA University College and University of Agder, Norway. Dr. Biesta introduces his lecture as follows:
“The question what education ‘is’ sounds almost too simple to warrant serious attention. Yet it is remarkable that under the broad category of ‘education’ many different things happen; some that are educational and others that are precisely the opposite. While these issues cannot be resolved by way of a ‘correct’ definition of education, it is nonetheless important to figure out what the ‘point’ of education might be. This is what I seek to explore in my presentation.”
The lecture will be followed by light refreshments at the Field Centre.
A suggested donation of £5 is payable on the door. Ruskin Mill staff attendance is free of charge.
